The Voice File is a short fill-in document that holds how you sound, what you believe, and where your work stops being something AI can help with. You write it once and paste it into your tools. From then on, the drafts start from you instead of from nobody.
Your name, who you serve, and your mission in a sentence or two. Not a bio for a conference. The real reason the work matters to you.
Place your tone on a few honest scales: warm to direct, playful to serious, plain to poetic. Note your rhythm too. Short punchy lines, or long ones that breathe.
The words that are yours. The phrases you have coined, the way you open, the small tics your readers would recognize. Give real examples, not adjectives.
The buzzwords, the corporate reflexes, the phrases that make you cringe. Write them down so AI has a clear line it never crosses. This is where generic AI voice gets caught.
Your point of view. The things you say out loud that others in your field will not. This is what keeps the writing yours even when a machine is holding the pen.
What only you can do, above the line: the judgment, the relationship, the felt sense of your voice. And what AI can help with, below it: the drafts, the repurposing, the first pass. Naming it keeps you in the parts that are you.
How you will be transparent that AI helped, with your clients, your audience, and yourself. A simple line you are comfortable saying out loud, decided ahead of time so you are never guessing.
Three to five things you wrote that sound most like you. A favorite newsletter, a post you were proud of, a transcript of you talking. This is the raw material the whole file is built to protect.
Drop your finished Voice File into your Claude or ChatGPT project instructions, or into a custom GPT. It becomes the context every draft is written against. Let AI carry the first pass, then do the final read yourself. When something drifts back into generic voice, update the file. That is how it gets sharper over time instead of resetting every session.
